Abstract
This research aims to discuss how the presence of Astronomy in the curricula of Physics teacher education programs and basic education in Minas Gerais can engage with Citizen Science practices. The study was conducted based on qualitative approach principles, involving document analysis and exploratory research. For basic education, the analyzed documents included the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and the Minas Gerais Reference Curriculum (CRMG). For higher education, the Course Pedagogical Projects (PPCs) of Physics teacher education programs at federal Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Minas Gerais were analyzed. Based on these documents, we investigated how Astronomy content is present in the basic education curriculum and how it is offered in the curricula of Physics teacher education programs at the mentioned institutions. Additionally, Citizen Science and Astronomy practices that could serve as references for expanding Astronomy education and science outreach were explored. The results of this research indicate a significant demand for Astronomy education, especially in elementary school, both in the early and late years. However, an analysis of the Physics teacher education curricula in Minas Gerais revealed a gap in teacher training for teaching Astronomy in basic education, with a low availability of both elective and mandatory courses in federal HEIs in the state. Citizen Science emerges as a promising tool for the socialization of Astronomy, promoting active citizen participation in scientific research through open-source software. In this context, the alternatives highlight methodological innovations, such as extension project initiatives aimed at teaching and disseminating Astronomy in informal learning spaces.
