Abstract
Considering the relationship between the role of extension activities and reading and writing in the scope of Professional and Technological Education (EPT), the general aim of this research is to analyze the literacy events in which the scholarship holders and volunteers of the extension project 'ConTEXTO: Reading and Text Production Workshop' are involved. To such end, an applied, qualitative and exploratory case study was carried out. The data of interest were collected through documents (Final Reports of the Junior Institutional Extension Scholarship Program, social media posts, publications, and participation in events), with a time frame from 2017 to 2022, and through semi-structured interviews with students who completed the Integrated High School at the Federal Institute of Minas Gerais - IFMG - Ouro Branco Campus - and participated in such project. These data were, in turn, interpreted through Discursive Textual Analysis, resulting in the production of metatexts (texts that combine descriptive-interpretative arguments expressing the understanding of the researcher about a particular phenomenon). The central results show that, in 'ConTEXTO,' the Enem essay textual genre serves merely as a 'guiding thread' for scholarship holders and volunteers to experience broader, more plural, and dynamic uses of reading and writing (oral, digital, informational, academic-scientific, etc.). Another fact presented in the results is: literacy events and practices analyzed encourage the use of these social activities not for instrumental and individualistic purposes, but for establishing relationships and exchanges of knowledge, experiences, and learnings with both internal and external communities. They also contribute to strengthening a citizen-oriented attitude with the development and/or enhancement of social values (responsibility, teamwork, interpersonal relationships, sensitivity, empathy, autonomy), as well as fostering the connection between theory (thinking) and practice (doing) from an interdisciplinary perspective, valuing the integration between technical content (specific) and propaedeutic content (general). Based on this investigation, it is believed that theoretical advances have been made in the field of studies on Professional and Technological Education (EPT) that investigates the themes of 'literacy,' 'integral human formation,' and 'extension' in Integrated High School. Practical advances were also made with the creation and evaluation of an educational product, more specifically an e-book (manual) on academic-scientific communication to assist students in dealing with the production of academic-scientific texts.
