Abstract
This study evaluated the nutritional composition of commercial dry dog foods, classified into the economic, premium, and super premium categories, aiming the verification of the compliance of laboratory parameters with the required standards and the values declared on the labels. The levels of dry matter, moisture, mineral matter, and crude protein were analyzed, highlighting that although most commercial foods show the minimum requirements, discrepancies were observed in some samples, such as elevated levels of mineral matter in super premium foods and crude protein values below the required levels in one food from the economic category. These results highlight the influence of ingredient quality, manufacturing processes, and storage conditions on the nutritional integrity of commercial foods, reinforcing the need for greater rigor in the formulation and commercialization of these products to adequately meet the needs of dogs.
