Abstract
The memory of a people is preserved in its artistic and cultural heritage. When applied to historical buildings, preservation practices require proper care in the adequate documentation of these heritages. The registration of historic buildings should include, in addition to a detailed iconographic survey, the visual identification of recurring damages, indicated on a damage map, which must be periodically updated to monitor the progression of pathologies. The effectiveness of photographic capture, processing, and analysis tools has kept pace with contemporary scientific and technological advancements, enabling better visual identification of a building's state of conservation to support intervention projects aimed at its preservation. In this work, we applied the Dense Stereo Matching (DSM) technique combined with Digital Photogrammetry to create a three-dimensional model and a damage map of the northwest facade of the church Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos in Diamantina, Minas Gerais, one of the first churches built in the region, which preserves the memory of the artistic, cultural, and social movement of 18th-century Brazil. The generated damage map will assist in the development of future conservation and restoration projects for the building, while the demonstration of the methodology will aid in the visual registration of different historical buildings.
