Abstract
The research discusses the topic of health education in Professional and Technological Education (EPT) master's course at the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Minas Gerais (IFMG), considering that one of the guidelines of the institute's Student Assistance Policy consists precisely in valuing health education. The objective is to investigate how the health education practices developed at IFMG contribute to the comprehensive development of students. The aim is to determine whether health education practices impact the teaching and learning process and, therefore, contribute to student retention and success. The work is aligned with the research line "Educational Practices in Professional and Technological Education" and structured based on “Macroproject 01”. The research involved a total of 17 (seventeen) participants. One of the interviews was conducted with a representative of the Dean's Office's Student Affairs Department, while 16 (sixteen) others were with staff members from IFMG campuses, of which 14 (fourteen) of them were involved in student assistance policy and 2 (two) were nurses. The hermeneutic-dialectical method was chosen for data analysis according to Minayo (2014). The interview data were analyzed considering Freire's theoretical framework, particularly regarding the conception of education as a practice of freedom. The principles that underpin omnilateral training, professional and technological education, and health education are also taken as theoretical guidance. The analyses revealed that health education practices at IFMG, although not yet implemented on all campuses, have the potential to strengthen the omnilateral training of students by promoting dialogue, active listening, and the collective construction of knowledge. Notwithstanding participants recognized the importance of health education and its articulation with the principles of EPT, challenges remain for these actions to be consolidated in a continuous and integrated manner within the institutional project. As an educational product, a collection of thematic notebooks was developed in an interactive e-book format. The product aims to contribute to team development and the qualification of health education practices developed within the EPT context, strengthening the role of student assistance as a promoter of students' comprehensive development. This study can foster discussions that promote the development of projects that link health education, omnilateral training, and academic performance at IFMG.
