Abstract
The present study sought to investigate the role of the school in relation to hydrological risks and its importance in raising awareness and developing skills that may mitigate risks in vulnerable areas. This field of study can be widely explored by Geography and, in addition to providing clarification, it promotes understanding of the results of human interaction with the environment, enabling individuals in vulnerable communities to deal with this type of disaster in the best possible way. The main objective of the study was to analyze the narratives about hydrological risk constructed by the community of “Coronel João Domingos” Municipal School, located in Raul Soares (MG), and to develop pedagogical interventions as a means of mediating between the potentialities and limitations of the local landscape based on the risk perception of the subjects who compose it. Through the collection of data on physical aspects, disaster history, and the interaction of individuals with the space in which they live, the study sought to mitigate the effects of possible future hydrological disasters by sharing information through a non-structural coping measure.
