Abstract
The generation of solid waste is intrinsic to all human activities. Therefore, it is of great importance that this waste is properly disposed of to minimize the damage caused to the environment and public health. Hence, it is essential to conduct a study that makes it possible to intervene in an economically and environmentally viable manner. In this regard, the gravimetric study of Urban Solid Waste (USW) is fundamental, as the data obtained from this study will make it possible to create parameters that will be essential in decision-making regarding the management of USW generated by the municipality of São Roque de Minas-MG, which currently has an estimated population of around 7,130 inhabitants (IBGE, 2022). The methodology used in this study was quartering, which is in accordance with ABNT NBR 10.007/2004. The necessary activities were monitored periodically to ensure that the results obtained were consistent. Upon completion and possession of the data obtained through the gravimetric study, it is expected that this study can contribute to local management regarding the management of urban solid waste, so that the municipality is within the parameters established by laws, resolutions, norms, and in accordance with various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN), among which the following stand out: 6. Clean water and sanitation; 11. Sustainable cities and communities; 14. Life below water; 17. Partnerships for the goals.goals.
