Diagnóstico e diretrizes para conservação e restauração do Casarão dos Presentes

This work presents guidelines for the conservation and restoration of the Casarão dos Presentes, a historic building listed as a Cultural Heritage Site in the city of Varginha, in the south of Minas Gerais, which is in a state of neglect. The work was based mainly on an analysis of the history of the building, identification of its construction techniques, a metric survey of the building and a diagnosis of the state of conservation of the cultural asset. Taking into account the lack of conservation and restoration practices in southern Minas Gerais, this study is an important tool for directing processes and interventions in buildings of cultural interest, with a view to safeguarding their integrity and authenticity. This study was divided into three parts: the first deals with the historical research of the building, a detailed description, the architectural metric survey and the urban context in which it is located. The second, in turn, provides a technical analysis of the diagnosis of the state of conservation with damage mapping. Finally, the third part proposes intervention guidelines and technical procedures to help draw up a basic and executive restoration project. As a result, we can highlight the contribution of this work to broadening the discussion about the need to preserve cultural heritage, especially architectural assets in the urban context of the city of Varginha/MG.
