Abstract
GEOGRAPHY AND LITERATURE: a look at place from the perspective of José Saramago's The Cave The purpose of this work is to use literary language to reflect on the geographical learning of the concept of place in the context of basic education. To do so, we use José Saramago's literary work The Cave and seek to encourage students to reflect on their living space through character analyses, with a view to learning geography within this relationship. With the initiative of educating through research, we aim to enable students to develop reflective thinking, better understanding the relationships established in the place where they live. To develop this work, we referenced authors who dialogue with a proposal for humanistic and cultural Geography, which advocates the idea of union/approximation between different areas of knowledge and the understanding of the subject from a holistic perspective of learning. The appreciation of the knowledge brought by the student and the involvement with the place where they live will guide us in this work.
