Abstract
This study presents an analysis of water losses through the implementation of methodologies for loss management such as water balance, loss indices and hydraulic modeling. The case study was developed from the supply system of the municipality of Piumhi, located in the central- west region of Minas Gerais. For the water balance of the software made available by World Bank WB-EasyCAlc was used, while the loss rates were calculated using equations found in the bibliographies in order to diagnose the current situation of the network. Both methodologies were carried out with the use of the consumption database in 2020 provided by SAAE, the municipal body responsible for basic sanitation. The hydraulic modeling was carried out with the aid of Qgis and the plugin QEPANET and after its completion imported to EPANET for simulation. With the results obtained with the water balance and the indicators that are, in general, below the national and state averages, it was possible to conclude that there is potential for significant improvements in the city's supply system if the management of losses is carried out, such as through leakage research and better network maintenance. Finally, through the hydraulic modeling it was possible to identify areas with pressures above the maximum recommended by NBR 12218/17, one of the main causes of leaks and consequent loss of water.
