Abstract
The present research discusses and analyzes the pedagogical potential of using mobile applications in the teaching and learning process of Geography in High School, using technology as a tool to promote geographic literacy and deepen curricular content, based on the student’s reality. The research analyzes the educational impact of activities carried out in a public school of the state education network, in the city of Conselheiro Lafaiete - MG, Brazil, using the smartphone applications Fields Area Measure, Gaia GPS, and CapCut, integrated into the teaching of Cartography and Urban Geography for High School classes. The results are presented and discussed in two chapters, in the format of scientific articles. They demonstrate student protagonism, in both activities, with great involvement and interest of the students both in the acquisition of essential theoretical knowledge and in practical tasks, mediated by technology, resulting in significant learning and contextualized to their reality. The work also results in an explanatory manual of the main functionalities of the Fields Area Measure app, aiming at its didactic use by Geography teachers. It’s expected that the investigative, interdisciplinary and dynamic practices that make up this research will help to demystify the use of technology as a didactic tool and to value Cartography as a specific language of Geography. Finally, it aims to contribute to the promotion of a geographic education that forms critical citizens, knowledgeable about the environment in which they live and the relationships between humans and space.
