Abstract
This work addresses the analysis of sustainable materials in civil construction, evaluating their performance and economic viability. The growing awareness of the need for environmentally responsible practices has driven the search for alternatives to conventional materials, which often cause significant negative environmental impacts. The study focuses on recycled materials such as recycled concrete and steel; natural materials like bamboo and reforested wood; and low CO₂ emission materials such as sustainable cement and ecological bricks. Criteria such as durability, mechanical resistance, thermal and acoustic insulation, maintenance, and lifecycle are investigated, along with their comparative advantages and disadvantages. The research also reviews relevant standards and certifications, such as LEED and Green Seal, and assesses the economic viability of these materials compared to conventional ones. Case studies of projects that have adopted sustainable materials are presented to illustrate the benefits and challenges of this approach. This study contributes to the understanding of the environmental, social, and economic impacts of using sustainable materials in civil construction.
