Abstract
The article presents the trajectory of Father Eustáquio van Lieshout, a Dutch missionary, who arrived in Brazil in 1925, and had a significant religious and social influence in several locations, especially in Belo Horizonte. The veneration of Father Eustáquio is deeply rooted in the history of Belo Horizonte, through the formation of the Padre Eustáquio neighborhood that was formed around the Sanctuary of Health and Peace. The study highlights the need to preserve the cultural and religious heritage of the Sanctuary, discussing the challenges and resistance encountered in implementing preservation measures. The resistance of religious institutions in accepting legal protection frameworks is seen as a barrier, as there is a fear of loss of autonomy over heritage. However, preservation is vital to maintaining the community's cultural memory and identity.
