Abstract
This study, developed within the scope of the Master's in Professional and Technological Education (ProfEPT), investigated the functions of the library in Professional and Technological Education (EPT). The objective was to analyze its contributions and potential for action, with an emphasis on the library's social role as a space for coexistence and expression, aiming at the omnilateral formation of internal and external communities. The research is characterized as qualitative, exploratory, and analytically descriptive, and adopts the action research approach (Tripp, 2005). The methodological procedures included document analysis, semi-structured interviews with the representative of the Extension Section of the Directorate of Extension, Culture, and Sports at the Bambuí campus, and the organization of a Culture Circle with campus students, a method proposed by Paulo Freire. Bardin's (1977) Content Analysis method was used to analyze the contributions. The results indicate that the library does not fully achieve its social potential. However, the possibility of integrating traditional and social functions was identified, with technology as an ally of education, through systematic knowledge of the communities served and their active participation in library practices. This study culminated in the creation of the Educational Product "Biblioteque-se: Paths of Coexistence, Memory, and Belonging for the Professora Ebe Alves da Silva Community Library," which aims to consolidate the library's role as a space for coexistence, education, memory, and cultural production, fostering dialogue between the communities within and outside the campus.
