Abstract
In the Brazilian context, the exploitation of natural resources and the strategic use of navigable rivers highlight the Northern region, especially the state of Rondônia, as a significant point of economic and social interest for centuries. This work, focused on the SR2 construction system and its supposed insertion in the municipality of Vilhena, explores the roots of modernization and its intersection with local cultural identity. Through the case study of a precast building of the 5th Engineering Battalion (5o BEC), the relevance of innovative construction practices in responding to immediate housing needs during periods of intense development, such as the construction of BR-029 (currently BR-364), and how such practices were integrated into the social and urban fabric of Vilhena, is highlighted. This heritage dossier not only aims at the preservation of this architectural heritage, highlighting its historical, cultural, and technical value, but also proposes guidelines for the conservation and valorization of this heritage, in line with national, state, and municipal regulations, as well as international heritage charters. The work reiterates the importance of safeguarding Rondônia's collective memory and identity, recognizing this building from the period as a material witness to a significant chapter in the region's history, promoting awareness of the need for protection and conservation of similar assets for posterity.
