Abstract
The small town of Dores do Turvo, belongs to the countryside in Minas Gerais the Microregion of Ubá/MG. In the center of the city, at a higher point in relation to the square, is located the Church Matriz de Nossa Senhora das Dores. An eclectic style building, which contains varying ornaments and features. Inside, it has several details characteristic of the place, from paintings and ornaments, among them Frescoes, which stand out and date from the time of construction of the Mother Church, in the 1940s.They are authored by the painter and restorer Edson Motta whose works deserve to be more widespread and studied. He made some works in the church and in some cities in the region, also being part of SPHAN, today IPHAN. Studying and interpreting his paintings is very important to know more about the author's works, his strokes and his techniques. In relation to the author, there are many studies and research, the opposite is observed with regard to the history of the town and buildings, as is the case of the Mother Church, as they lack a lot of deep theoretical knowledge.
