Abstract
The present work aims to bring information about the importance of using the map as a didactic resource for teaching geography at EscolaEstadual São Sebastião, it seeks to make clear what benefits the use of the map can bring to the school formation of these students. It was decided to use a bibliographic review research as a methodology, since the use of a map as a didactic resource makes clear the need for authors who leave the text well-founded on the importance of maps in basic education. through questionnaires applied to students and teachers. The results of this work were satisfactory, as it is possible to perceive that the use of maps is already treated as an important didactic resource, which needs to be further explored in order to contribute more effectively to cartographic literacy. In this perspective, a collection of maps of the local context will also be presented in the appendix of this work so that the maps can be used by teachers, since it is intended that the map assumes a place of excellence and strategy for geography teachers to use them as often as possible. in the teaching-learning process in the teaching of Geography in basic education.
