Abstract
Textbooks have been used in the Brazilian educational system as a teaching-learning tool since the Imperial Period. Given its relevance in the school context, it is important to evaluate the quality of the knowledge presented, and how well the correlation between theoretical knowledge and reality is established. For this reason, the aim of this study was to analyse three 6th grade of Middle School Geography textbooks in order to verify the association of the content provided regarding water resources and the reality experienced by students. With a view to achieve that, the technique of Content Analysis was used as a theoretical method, resulting in the selection and categorization of the data obtained in each educational book. Furthermore, a comparison between the three textbooks was made, in order to understand the different approaches – if existent - to relate the book to students‟ everyday life. As a result, it was visible that these textbooks attempt an approximation with the reality experienced by the target readers regarding water resources. However, more specific points of the Geography program are discussed in an unnecessary superficial manner and with no correlation with the learner point of view, which prevents the full understanding of the importance of this subject by students.
