Abstract
We explore connections between mathematics and engineering through statistics in primary education with the design and implementation of a STEAM activity. For that, we theoretically scaffold STEAM education, the connections between mathematics and engineering through statistics. Second, we describe the design and implementation of a STEAM activity with 23 Spanish students aged 10-11. This activity comprises three phases: 1) beginning: draw an engineer; 2) development: statistical investigative cycle about students’ drawings; and 3) closure: dialogue around engineering. We concluded the investigative cycle promotes critical thinking around the conceptions and stereotypes about engineering. In this sense, STEAM education allows opening paths toward early engineering at school and in connection with mathematics.
