Abstract
The built heritage of Brazil, exemplified by the Museu da Inconfidência in Ouro Preto/MG, requires in-depth studies for its conservation. This undergraduate thesis aimed to characterize the mix design and constituent materials of the mortars applied to the internal masonry of the Museu da Inconfidência, with the objective of supporting future conservation and restoration actions. For this purpose, samples were collected from strategic points of the building, following minimum intervention criteria. The identification of constituents (binders, aggregates, and additives) was carried out through various laboratory analytical techniques, including micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), loss on ignition (LOI), water absorption, binder and aggregate content, and granulometric analysis. The results provided a comprehensive understanding of the physico-chemical characteristics of the mortars, revealing a predominantly calcareous composition and the presence of traditional additives. The interpretation of these data, based on scientific literature and technical standards, enabled the assessment of material compatibility and the identification of possible later interventions. This study offers crucial technical support for the development of restoration strategies that ensure the integrity and material compatibility of the built heritage, contributing to the preservation of priceless cultural assets.
