Abstract
Environmental issues are in a prominent position, and with the emergence of problems on a global scale, it is necessary to promote more balanced development models. In the scope of corporate management, the ISO 14001 Certification can be considered the gold standard for environmental management systems and, in order to keep it updated and relevant, a new version of this certification was launched in 2015. The investment in competences in this subject to the workers of the organizations, generates improvements in the environmental performance. Therefore, the present work constitutes a systematic review of the literature on the main changes of the ISO 14001 environmental certification update, launched in 2015 and on estimating how the employees of a medium-sized Brazilian industry certified by ISO 14001:2015 perceive the proposed actions implemented by the company's Environmental Management System, focusing on the latest revision. The main changes are related to the organization's context, life cycle perspective, risk approach, leadership and the strengthening of the organization's environmental performance. The results also demonstrate the importance of the environment topic being widely propagated, through formal training, means of communication and dissemination by leaders. The employees of an organization are key pieces in the construction of a robust system that protects the environment and is aligned with the principles of sustainability.
