Abstract
This work is developed from the study of historical monuments that can contribute to the future elaboration of two proposals for religious tourist itineraries: an urban itinerary and a rural itinerary, for the municipality of Piracuruca, in the state of Piauí. The proposal derives from the recognition of the mutual need for preservation/conservation and registration of the assets and agents that will be presented in this work, intending with the religious tourist itineraries the sustainable use of the cultural heritage of the municipality, in order to also collaborate in a better recognition and appropriation of the potentialities and cultural assets by its residents. The municipality of Piracuruca, where the research was developed, is characterized as a road junction, presenting potential in several areas: hydrographic; ecological-environmental; archaeological; historical and cultural; religious and agricultural. In addition to having rich stories, myths and legends about the origin of the city, as well as personalities and monuments representing different moments in local history, such as residences and public buildings that could be used in a sustainable manner, however, these potentialities are underutilized or lack incentives for better enjoyment, mainly harming the recognition and appropriation of these skills, directly affecting their preservation and transmission to future generations. The work intends to present concepts related to tourism activity and relate the contribution of such activity in the preservation of Cultural Heritage, so that, when tourism actions are well structured and developed, they contribute to the sustainable development of the community that holds these assets, through the use, conservation and preservation of the cultural heritage in order to guarantee the transmission of these assets and cultural knowledge to future generations.
