Abstract
This study synthesizes the methodology, results, and discussions involved in the development of the Vila Rica Atlas, a virtual portal that presents the evolution of the urban tissue of the Historic Center of Ouro Preto between 1690 and 2024 through an interactive map. The aim of the Atlas is to organize the city's cartographic documentation, integrating it into a unified style of representation and enabling the reading of the historical cartography for Ouro Preto. The portal will be available for consultation at from December 15, 2024. The project had as references two portals developed by the Rice University that also utilize historical and digital maps to construct a timeline: ImagineRio and pilotPlan, both available online. The development of the Atlas was based on the collection of documentary material, including 23 maps (both historical and reconstructed from consolidated researches), 9 satellite views and 76 buildings and monuments in the city. This compilation was carried out through bibliographic review and visits to public archives. The collected elements were transcribed and interpreted in digital format, processed, and integrated into a command interface using HTML/CSS. As a result, this study presents and discusses the challenges encountered during the development of the platform and evaluates the potential contributions of the Vila Rica Atlas to the research on cartography in the Historic Center of Ouro Preto.
