Abstract
The green sand casting process is widely used in the production of metal parts, because sand molds have strong resistance to the high temperatures reached during these processes. Furthermore, it is an easy to apply and low-cost technique that can be performed manually and automatically. Although the casting process may be old, it is still a complex process that requires continuous improvement to become increasingly effective. Its complexity is due to several variables encountered throughout the process, such as the sizing of the batters and descent channels, properties of the sand used, the use of ceramic filters, among others. These factors directly interfere with the quality of products since, if carried out incorrectly, they generate defects in the parts produced, resulting in rework and loss of productivity. The general objective of this work was to present the impacts generated by oil contamination in foundry sand and the changes in its properties. The result shows that this contamination directly influences the quality of the sand, affecting its physical chemical properties, which creates major problems for the process.
