Abstract
This work seeks to look at the city from the meanings that indigenous peoples give to the territory and from the presence of identity expressions of these peoples. This, based on the analysis of identity expressions present in the hypercenter of Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais that have links with certain indigenous peoples. Obviously, this work does not intend to propose a consensus on what is territory for indigenous peoples, nor does it seek to establish a new concept that puts an end to all discussion around this term. With this in mind, the research resorts to indigenous scholars and artists, such as Gersem Baniwa (2006), Célia Xakriabá (2019) and Denilson Baniwa (2020), aiming at the quality of the approach to the concept. From this, it is intended to fill a gap in the field of Architecture and Urbanism regarding the study of the urban territory, from the identity expressions linked to the knowledge of the indigenous peoples. To carry out the research, the following methods were adopted: bibliographical research; documentary research; and exploratory field research, with a focus on seeking to apprehend the experiences of those who actually inhabit the territories studied, and, mainly, on the qualitative view of representatives of indigenous peoples in an urban context. In this way, it was possible to approach identity expressions such as the exhibition of indigenous and immigrant art and crafts Abya Yala, the events of the Municipal Week of Indigenous Peoples and murals printed in the city by artists such as Daiara Tukano, Sueli Maxakali and Coletivo Mahku. After the bibliographic review and field work, it was possible to understand the tensions and layers that make up the hypercenter of Belo Horizonte, also as an indigenous territory. In addition, it was understood that the presence of identity expressions of indigenous peoples in the city now configure this space as a territory of resumption. The cosmopolitical character revealed by the aforementioned discussions is also highlighted. It was understood that the city, through its layers, can be composed of some cosmopolitical fields that show the presence of di erent forces and beings, between the human and the non-human. Thus, as a result of this process, the work seeks to make these cosmopolitical fields visible, in an imagery way, through a photographic survey and a new map for the hypercenter of Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais.
