Abstract
Steel structures are gaining more and more space in civil engineering, as they have several advantages over other traditional construction methods. In addition to reducing execution time, steel structures are used in more developed countries because they require a high technical standard, but it is known that when not executed correctly, this type of structure can become a major problem in construction. The connection made in this constructive way is a point that must be chosen, calculated and executed in detail, as it can define the success or disaster of the structure. With that in mind, the following research aims to compare the Brazilian standard, ABNT NBR 8800, and the European standard, Eurocode 3 Part:1-8, regarding the sizing of the fin plate connection, with the aim of verifying the difference in checks and values that the norms present, analyzing which presents more conservative results. Finally, it was possible to verify that the European standard presents a more detailed character on verifications, in comparison with the Brazilian standard, when the subject is steel connections and mainly the fin plate and, in addition, the national standard proved to be more conservative in the calculation of resistances.
