Abstract
Just as in other institutions of Professional and Technological Education (EPT), it is common to find students at IFMG Congonhas campus who enroll in integrated technical courses without a clear understanding of the attributions of their future profession. In this context, this research takes Professional Guidance as its object of study, choosing as its theme the process of professional choice in the integrated technical courses in Building, Mechanics, and Mining at the aforementioned campus. After all, the students of these three courses will have been through a path of professional choice when they have enrolled in their respective programs. The main goal of this research is to understand, from the students’ own perspective, the process behind their professional choices. The study has a qualitative and quantitative character and will use the following methodological instruments: bibliographic research and documentary analysis of the essays written in 2024 by students of the integrated technical courses during humanities department classes that address this theme. In this regard, the strategy considered most appropriate for the development of this research was Descending Hierarchical Classification (DHC), according to the method described by Reinert (1987; 1990). It is expected that, beyond achieving its central goal, this Research may contribute to broadening and reflecting on Professional Guidance for students at IFMG Congonhas campus, enabling more informed choices. As a practical result of the investigation, an educational product was developed entitled “Collaborative Game of Professional and Technological Education: Getting to Know Professions”, which seeks to expand awareness of the range of integrated technical courses offered at IFMG.
