Abstract
Wood corresponds to secondary xylem, which is used for various purposes. The anatomy of wood is an important tool for understanding the raw material, aiming for better applicability. In view of the above, this study aimed to perform the macroscopic anatomical characterization of the wood of Angelim, Sucupira, and Angelim Pedra. Samples of wood from Angelim Pedra, Angico, and Sucupira, from the didactic collection of the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Minas Gerais, São João Evangelista campus, were used. The samples were transformed into test bodies of approximately 1 x 1 x 1 cm. The test bodies were subjected to a sanding process with sandpaper of grain sizes from 80 to 600, and then macro-photographs were taken in the three cutting planes: transverse, longitudinal tangential, and longitudinal radial. After analysis and comparison with the literature, it was verified that the wood of Angelim belongs to the genus Hymenolobium, the wood of Angico corresponds to Anadenanthera sp., and the wood of Sucupira belongs to the genus Dipltropis.
