Abstract
Dairy farming in Brazil is considered very important within the agricultural sector and the agribusiness itself, being fundamental to the country's economic progress. The target of this study was the Microregion of Três Marias, in Paineiras - MG and Biquinhas – MG cities. In these municipalities, there are many rural producers who dedicate themselves only to the dairy activity. In this respect, it is necessary to identify the socio-productive profile and the application of zootechnical indexes in the micro-region. Therefore, the goal of the present study was to characterize the milk production in 7 (seven) rural properties located in these municipalities, seeking to identify the socio-productive aspects and the use of zootechnical indexes in their rural properties. Through descriptive research, in a case study, a spontaneous and census semi-structured questionnaire was applied to local milk producers, addressing socio-productive characteristics, management and health of the herd. From the results obtained in the research, a local dairy producers profile was drawn up, being considered similar, since most of the respondents also opted for the same alternatives. One difficulty found in production refers to the zootechnical indexes, which, despite being described as practiced, were actually being careless, requiring a higher attendance of technicians in the area. Milk production can be optimized by simple measures of zootechnical control and knowledge of the enterprise, something that, in many cases, is overlooked by small producers, or is not given due importance.
