Abstract
This study examines the restoration process of the former Câmara e Cadeia of Mariana, undertaken between 2021 and 2023, with a primary focus on the interventions aimed at preserving the historical heritage. The research employs photographs to document modifications to windows, structural components, flooring, and masonry, comparing the restoration practices with the theoretical principles applied. The analysis was conducted through site visits, utilizing photographic and construction equipment to record the alterations and evaluate the adequacy of the interventions. Furthermore, historical archive research was carried out, along with interviews with the professionals responsible for the restoration project. The study seeks to assess the effectiveness of the techniques employed in the preservation process, contributing to the documentation and reflection on the significance of cultural heritage conservation within the framework of modern restoration practices, incorporating the theories of restoration. Additionally, the research aims to address the restoration of specific elements, such as stucco, and its importance within the broader preservation effort.
