Abstract
The potato is a herbaceous vegetable, from the group of roots and tubers, belonging to the botanical species Solanum tuberosum L., from the Solanaceae family. It is of utmost importance in human nutrition, it is part of the diet of many Brazilian families and can be consumed fresh or processed, in the form of chips, frozen pre-fried French fries and straw potatoes. Currently, the consumption of French fries is growing considerably in Brazil, requiring cultivars adapted to climatic conditions, with characteristics of industrial interest, such as high dry matter content, low sugar content, rounded shape and superficial vegetative buds. In this context, the present work aimed to characterize potato clones from the Potato Genetic Improvement Program of the Federal University of Lavras in relation to morphological and developmental characters. The experiment was carried out at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Minas Gerais, Bambuí Campus, using 22 different genetic materials, of which 20 are experimental clones from the potato breeding program of the Federal University of Lavras (PROBATATA/UFLA ) and two are commercial cultivars (cultivar Atlantic and Asterix), used in this work as controls. The evaluations carried out were tuber emergence, number of stems, plant height, growth habit, flower color, pigmentation of the plant stem, curvature of the edge of the leaflets, size of the leaflets, leaf coverage, presence of wings and disease incidence. The results found show that some clones stood out more than others, such as clones CCF25-08, CCF02-05, CCF24-13, CCF03-09, CCF12-11 and CCF01-12, which showed a low incidence of late blight. , and did not demonstrate the presence of viruses, in addition to presenting morphological characteristics of interest. The results confirm the morphological diversity present among the clones evaluated, constituting important morphological markers that can be used in the registration processes of new cultivars after the evaluation of the productive and quality characteristics that have been carried out concomitantly with this work.
