Abstract
Reconciling technological development and sustainability is one of the urgencies of the 21st century and, in this context, the question of how to deal with unserviceable electronics in a correct and sustainable way, while complying with all the rules of legislation, is gaining relevance, especially considering Brazil's position in the global production of electronic waste. Due to budgetary and legal constraints, this problem is even more evident in federal institutes, which led to a discussion about the process of disposing of such waste at the IFMG Ouro Preto Campus and possible alternatives to it. Through structured interviews, analysis of legislation and a careful literature review, it was possible to visualize unique options that present themselves as a possibility to the obsolete processes still in place.
