Abstract
The quality of education can be measured by different parameters, including the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) being the main reference in Brazil. This research aims to analyze the results of public schools in the municipality of Ouro Preto (MG). Data relating to the scores and goals of the 9th elementary school were analyzed, including 7 state schools and 15 municipal schools, from 2005 to 2023. Descriptive statistics techniques were applied. The results show that although it is a national parameter for assessing the quality of education, there may be other factors that are not taken into consideration, such as the system responsible for education (federal, state, municipal) and the geographical location of the schools. The data analysis allowed for grouping into three groups: 1) homogeneous schools, which maintained a constant performance profile; 2) heterogeneous schools, whose performance fluctuated greatly over the years; and 3) schools with little data. Considering the results, the information revealed significant variations between the profiles of municipal and state schools, indicating that educational performance is not directly linked to the federative entity, but rather involves several factors related to the school's management and its students.
