Abstract
This work seeks to study the use of water resources, analyzing potentialities and limitations regarding its scarcity, which has been the object of study in Brazil and in the world. From this perspective, this study evidences the project of capture, storage and potential for rainwater use at Universidade Federal de Viçosa- Campus Florestal/MG. And thinking about the vital importance of water, and because it is a Federal university of teaching, research and extension, it is understood that this project has a large practical and educational dimension, which will generate a positive impact to the academic community and society in general. The main objective of this study is the development of a rainwater harvesting and storage system for use for non-potable purposes in the fruticulture sector of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa- Campus Florestal. Calculations of the ideal storage capacity of rainwater reservoirs were performed using the methods of Ripll, simulation, Azevedo Neto or practical Brazilian, practical German and English, and to measure the return time of capital Invested, the Payback method was chosen. They presented considerable results regarding the capture and storage of rainwater, physical-chemical and microbiological analyses of the stored water, noting that it is of good quality to be used for non-potable purposes, and also demonstrating the optimal capacity of the reservoir for rainwater storage. Finally, for sustainable development and sustainability, there is a need for harmonization between economic development, environmental preservation, social justice, quality of life and the rational use of natural resources, especially water.
