Abstract
School dropout has been a constant concern for Higher Education institutions, as it impacts both individuals who abandon their studies and the institutions themselves. This work aims to investigate dropouts in Higher Education in the Physics Degree course, especially at the Instituto Federal de Minas Gerais Campus Ouro Preto. The objective of this study is to collect data on the trend in the rate of students who abandoned the Physics Degree course, focusing mainly on Federal Institutes, with data obtained from official platforms between the years 2017 to 2022 and internally by the registration sector between 2015 and 2022, compare them with regional and national data. By surveying these results, the research will provide a deeper understanding of the temporal dynamics and events that can affect dropouts in the Physics Degree, making it possible to support eventual institutional decision-making aimed at reducing dropouts in order to guarantee academic success.
