Abstract
Taking into account the importance of financial education in the current context as necessary knowledge to promote healthy financial habits, this research will seek to answer the following guiding question: Which knowledge in Financial Education is necessary to promote the integral human formation for students of Professional and Technological Education? In order to find an answer to the proposed question, we established the following objectives to be achieved: a) understand the elementary concepts of financial planning as conceived by students; b) identify students' conception of financial education knowledge considering consumption, credit and investment; c) develop an educational product in a guide format that provides learning and encourages the practice of emancipatory financial education. As a methodology, we carried out applied and descriptive research, using a qualitative approach, whose data were collected in questionary and semi-structured interviews with students from Integrated High School at IFMG Ouro Branco Campus. These data, in turn, were interpreted in light of Content Analysis in its three phases: pre-analysis, exploration and theoretical inference. The research’s results validated the assumption that students do not have knowledge of financial education capable of promoting independent and critical decisions. The students stated that they knew little about the issue, which can lead them to make wrong decisions, as a result of the knowledge lack on the subject, harming their decision-making. This knowledge lack is reflected in the indebtedness of the Brazilian population, which uses credit as a means of inclusion in the consumer society. Finally, as a product of this dissertation, an interactive guide on financial education was created to support students in the expansion of knowledge on the subject.
