Abstract
The dimensioning of a structure is carried out from the working efforts in the elements, values that can be obtained through different methods of analysis and these can be further simplified or refined. The simplified methods allow engineers to perform analyses, either manually or using tools such as tables, free software, calculators, even if laborious and time-consuming process. On the other hand, the most refined methods have a high complexity, making its application unfeasible without the use of specific paid for software, if current productivity standards are considered. In order to analyze the differences that may occur in efforts by varying the type of method of analysis structural, this work seeks to compare the values obtained using a method simplified by considering the structure as flat in comparison of spatial gantry (refined method). The use of a specific software lead to savings in time to be used in processing, in addition to being made a more refined and close analysis of the actual movement of the structure. For producing this work was developed a commercial project to carry out the survey of the active efforts. For calculations by the flat gantry method, spreadsheets, tables and Ftool software were used. For the spatial gantry method, the CypeCAD software was used. The results of the efforts were collected and compared, and although it was expected that the method of flat gantry would be more conservative its shows some increases because is a more simplified method. In general, the software proved to be more conservative, and the greatest variations found in the values of the moments, since the spatial portico considers the influence of efforts from other directions simultaneously, and the effects caused by oblique compound flexion. Despite presenting the highest values, the software compensates with the gain in productivity and reliability.
