Abstract
Focusing on debates on promoting a culture of peace as a response to confronting violence in Brazilian schools, this article seeks to present that values similar to those proposed by the cul-ture of peace are already present in the cultures of African and indigenous peoples but which need to be taught and experienced in schools in Brazil as a factor for social transformations. The proposal of the article advocates the centrality of civilizational values originating in Africa, which differ from the anti-racism that is of the Western category and is related to values that permeate diversity, community, respect for nature, and all the beings that make it up; in other words, they are essential for rethinking social and ethnic-racial relations to follow paths that can overcome the violent practices that are conceived by the hegemonic limitations of the stan-dard curriculum, which is extremely Eurocentric. As a result, the article warns that the culture of peace is directly linked to laws 10.639/2003 and 11.645/2008 since the social and collective purpose of peace is connected to confronting the inequalities that maintain violence and revolve around the racial issues that mark the historical-social process of Brazil.
