TECNOLOGIA 5G-V2X: análise dos principais benefícios e limitações na região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte

This paper addresses the 5G-V2X technology and its main benefits and limitation on metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The 5G-V2X technology enables communication between vehicles, pedestrians, traffic managements units and monitoring servers. Among the benefits are the reduction of traffic accidents, which is the focus of this paper, the decrease in traffic congestion, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the advance of autonomous vehicles. However, there are limitations to consider, such as 5G signal coverage and age of vehicle fleet since the implementation of technology requires a specific electronic control unit to enable the communication. Results of technology applications in other countries were analyzed, as well as a study of 5G coverage in a city in metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. Despite the significant limitations for applying 5G-V2X, its benefits are relevant in social, environmental, and economic aspects. Socially, the technology can reduce the number of injuries and deaths in traffic accidents; environmentally, it can decrease the occurrence of congestion that emits CO2; and economically, it can reduce public spending on traffic accident victims.
