Abstract
As a form of local development, urban agriculture has achieved national growth, in this regard vegetable cultivation has been used, because of its importance in Brazilian’s economy, as well as concern with new eating habits, sustainability and social inclusion. Community Urban Gardens project, in Sete Lagoas, is a reference in production in this kind of activity, since it’s been consolidated for 36 years. The present work’s purpose is to characterize vegetable productions in the Community Urban Gardens, by knowing all cultivation methodologies in agronomic interest, identifying the system of production of the vegetables in the region, main cultivated vegetables to thus identify which points have to be improved to express the true potential of production. All data were collected through an exploratory questionnaire, applied to 35 participants. The research results showed the feeding, environmental and social importance of gardens in the community, contributed to local economy’s strength, diagnosed the production chain of this activity, and also highlighted some practices that are not ideal for cultivation and the main limitations found by producers.
