Abstract
The region object of this work corresponds to the urban area of the municipality of Mariana, state of Minas Gerais. The existence of the urban zone at risk of mass movements and on the banks of flooding derives mainly from the fact that the city originated around Ribeirão do Carmo. The work addresses the processes of illegal occupation in green areas that occur due to the negligence of the public power, noting that there is already a law in force that protects and supports these areas. The inadequate appropriation of the soil results in its compaction, due to the removal of vegetation, interfering with the natural drainage of the surface and may lead to processes with geological risk. Another result caused by the establishment of protected sites is the drying up of the springs, caused by the decrease in the efficient infiltration of rainwater. These appropriations cause other direct impacts on the environment, either in the sudden change of the landscape, or in the environmental character with accumulation of garbage, lack of collection and treatment of sewage. The general objective of this work was the elaboration of a diagnosis of the different geological processes and mappings were carried out on flood areas, green areas, urban expansion from a multitemporal analysis in order to understand how in the years 2007 to 2019 these themes happened in the urbe, and we conclude that urban expansion has largely occurred in green areas.
