Abstract
This review aimed to gather information from works and research developed for the various irrigation systems in Brazil. Irrigation is a technique created from the need of ancient civilizations to take advantage of the wealth of the Nile River to improve food production at that time, since the population was growing and continues to grow to the present day. The methods used in this type of irrigation management facilitate the supply of water, in an adequate and uniform way and favor the development of the plants. To improve the development of plants, irrigation helps to maintain the humidity of the cultivated soil, resulting in an increase in productivity. The amounts needed to carry out the implementation or expansion of irrigated agriculture are not low and, therefore, it is necessary to carry out an economic analysis since the lower-priced product is not always cheaper in the long run. Thus, the following bibliographic review aims to gather information on the research developed for the sprinkler, drip and self-propelled irrigation system and show the importance of water resource management and good irrigation practices to achieve better results in activities as well as discussing which irrigation method is the most economically viable depending on the size of the area and the crop used and why some producers are still reluctant to implement such techniques on their properties.
