Abstract
The Energy cogeneration in a steel industry is a very viable alternative. The significant value of electric energy has a direct impact on production costs due to the large number of machinery used in the operations of this industrial segment. The thermoelectric plants in these plants are fueled by gases from the reactions of the blast furnace, however, during the production process, the available volume of gas is insufficient. In the present work, using the tools and energy concepts for the steelmaking process, a detailed study of the electrical energy cogeneration system was carried out, in a non-integrated steel plant coupled to a thermoelectric plant, with the purpose of improving the use of the generated gases. in the production of pig iron in a charcoal-fired blast furnace. Energy analyzes were carried out for each of the components of the thermoelectric power generation cycle. It was possible to evidence the relationship between the variation of the blast furnace gas flow and the energy generation as well as the considerable reduction in the cost of purchasing electricity from the power utility.
