Abstract
An analysis of labels and package inserts of pesticides allows us to explore not only related aspects of typographical readability but also the ones related to the risks to human and environmental health. It was proposed the identification of the major problems about written information regarding the reading and understanding of these forms, verifying compliance with the standards according to data required by the Federal Agrochemicals and related legislation, as well as the consequences of this. The exploratory and analytical-descriptive research was developed through semi-structured interviews with farmers, agronomists, agricultural technicians and resellers of phytosanitary products from São Gotardo and region to obtain data on legibility of labels and package inserts. The interviewees considered mainly that the printed ones have too technical and extensive technical language, besides having very small letters, which hinder the communication process. The typographic analysis was carried out in tables created for the verification, where it was found that some requirements of the legislation are not fulfilled and that the existing ones need to be improved. Some pictograms also proved not to be efficient, because they can generate ambiguous definitions and low levels of understanding leading to human and environmental health problems. Based on suggestions from the interviewees of the agricultural segment, a printout was produced with clearer and more objective information and images warning about dangerousness of the phytosanitary products.
