Abstract
Brazil has a huge potential for generating electrical energy through renewable sources, especially that obtained through wind power. Many studies have been carried out over the years to improve and enable the construction of new wind farms. Wind farm towers are subject to numerous variable stresses, arising from the direct actions of the winds and differences in turbine rotation. Such efforts can cause mechanical damage, such as fatigue failure. The useful life of a wind farm tower is conditioned by the success in dealing with the phenomenon of fatigue in its structure. There are two main models of wind farm towers, this study will only deal with the horizontal axis wind farm. This work will seek to study the cyclical and non-cyclical efforts acting on wind turbine towers and their implications regarding the phenomenon of fatigue in their metallic structure, connections and foundation. Already developed technologies and engineering solutions will be examined, which aim to minimize damage caused by fatigue. To achieve this objective, a bibliographical review will be carried out, exploring academic data and current construction practices.
