Abstract
The present work has the objective to know the diversity of medium and large mammals of two unconnected forest remnants, in a region of small rural properties. An d through the application of a qualifying questionnaire for residents of the community surrounding the remnants, understand the environmental perception, with the objective of proposing strategies for the conservation and preservation of fauna diversity. The Forest remnants were designated as Area I - (18º45'00,25 "S and 45º58 '34, 30" O) and Area II - (18º40'58,24 "S and 45º54'16,76" O) of Carmo do Paranaíba - MG. These areas presented phytophysiognomies typical of the Cerrado Biome. The following methods were used to Record mammals: trap cameras and linear transects to perform an active search for traces. Trap cameras were installed in each area, with 4 sampling points for each one. The linear transects are approximately 1250m in area I and 1170m in area II with 10 metres width (vision of reach). Maps of location, vegetation, geology and land use and occupation were prepared using the ArcGIS 10.3 program. The Forest remnants are characterized by patches of native vegetation and matrices classified as pasture areas. The region around areas I and II has approximately 14,152 ha of area with a high level of fragmentation. The region's economy is geared towards cattle management. Data collections were carried out during 2019 (January to October). Twenty species of mammals belonging to 13 families were recorded. The diversity of mastofauna in the region suggests that the composition of the native landscape, even if it is not continuous, registers species with medium and high sensibility. The analysis of the selected maps showing the agro-ecosystems is disconnected and with small Forest remnants that have between 50 and 340ha on average. The coexistence and perception of the rural community analysed so far is a cultural gap that must be adjusted. Studies of this nature are important the environmental awareness of the local population to develop, since the preservation of wild fauna is directly related to its ecological services and the maintenance of the balance of the environments.
