Abstract
This research examines the factors that demotivate individuals from entering and remaining in the labor market in the municipality of Formiga, Minas Gerais. The investigation was conducted through semi-structured interviews with three distinct profiles: formal workers seeking new employment; unemployed or informal workers seeking to enter the formal labor market; and individuals who currently express no intention of entering the labor market. The methodology adopted was qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive, with thematic content analysis. The overall objective of the research is to understand how different trajectories influence demotivation in the job market of the three specified profiles. Based on the analysis of empirical data and the three major themes: demotivation factors, structural and emotional barriers, and perceptions of the labor market, it was possible to identify that, in the analyzed profiles, demotivation presented different justifications for remaining in, seeking, or rejecting opportunities in the labor market. Factors such as limited benefits, low pay, lack of qualifications and difficulties accessing them, health problems, family responsibilities, and a preference for younger workers stand out. Furthermore, the negative perception of the job market in Formiga, Minas Gerais, marked by a lack of opportunities, excessive demands, and the exclusion of certain groups, reinforces the challenges faced and directly influences the decisions of these three profiles regarding whether to remain in their current job, seek a new position, or decide not to return to the market.
