Abstract
The karst region of Pains-MG stands out for its unique geomorphological characteristics and its remarkable biological diversity. Especially due to the number of cavities registered in the municipality, it receives the title of “Arcos/Pains/Doresópolis Karstic Province”. These distinctive characteristics make the local conservation of biodiversity and geodiversity essential to prevent and mitigate impacts in areas identified as highly vulnerable, generating positive consequences for both the environment and society. This study aims to develop an action plan for the Tio Rafa I and Tio Rafa II caves located in Pains-MG. The objective is to establish sustainable tourist management of these places for the benefit of neighboring communities, as well as to create a booklet to be used in educational activities, with the aim of publicizing the importance of cave invertebrates. To achieve this purpose, biospeleological surveys and characterization of the physical environment were carried out. Based on this data, maps were prepared with speleological zoning and guidelines for conservation, with an emphasis on tourism. The results of these efforts include two detailed cartographic maps highlighting various use zones, including extensive, preservation, restricted use, temporarily restricted, and intensive zones. Furthermore, points of importance for the physical and biotic environment were identified, essential for ecological dynamics and to be presented during future visits. Through this zoning, it was possible to observe crucial details that require careful study and elaboration in relation to tourism in the Tio Rafa I and II caves. Thus, the main guidelines for the management plan for these sites were established. Finally, the creation of the booklet included photos taken of the fauna of the caves themselves and a simple and clear language, accessible to anyone interested in understanding the richness of cave invertebrates. This study not only contributes to expanding knowledge about the Karstic Province of Arcos/Pains/Doresópolis, in Minas Gerais, but also reinforces the importance of conserving speleological heritage and the use of tourism as a tool to disseminate information about this cave environment, by through environmental education in the region.
