Abstract
The aim of this paperwork is to execute a case study through a diagnosis that analyzed and set up tools which contribute with a sustainable management at Parque Avenida condominium in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. This research flourished as a result of the of energy and water consume monitoring, solid residues and administrative documents management, the proposal of education for sustainability, creation of a institutional figure, and the achievement of AQUA-HQE certification. Besides, it analyzed the opinion of managers and condominium managers, civil engineers and architects, as well as students of the courses named above of IFMG Campus Santa Luzia about the sustainability applied to condominium related means. The water (m 3 /m 2 ) and energy(kwh/ m 2 ) data gathered measured the amount of solid residues (L) daily engendered and sent to recycling (13%). The opinion research is a descriptive one and the data were collected by survey analysis. It was observed that after the educational process, the deployment of practices and equipments there were a reduction of water consumption and segregation of residues, although it didn’t decrease the amount of energy spent, in spite of being a lower consumption rate if compared to other buildings. The answers of the opinion research showed sustainability is not yet seen as a viable economic process to be considered in civil construction environment. Finally, the processes and initiatives practiced at the condominium related to sustainable development showed that the deployment of water and energy management, of solid residues, administrative documents, as well as adoption of a sustainable education and mainly the adoption of certain criteria in order to achieve the AQUA-HQE® certification, bring environmental, social and economic benefits to commercial condominiums.
