Abstract
In small animal clinical practice, dermatological disorders are one of the most common causes for veterinary appointments, accounting for the primary complaint in approximately 30% of visits. This study aimed to characterize, through the analysis of clinical records, the profile of canine patients and their main dermatological conditions treated at the Centro Clínico Veterinário (CCV) of the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Minas Gerais (IFMG) - Campus Bambuí in 2023. A total of 137 canine paciente records were reviewed, excluding follow-up visits, for the period from March 2023 to December 2023. The selected records included those with dermatological complaints or clinical signs and at least one suspected or confirmed diagnosis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics via Microsoft Excel®. Out of 137 records, 44 (32,11%) met the selection criteria. Among the 44 animals, females were more affected, with 25 cases (56,8%). Regarding breed, the majority were mixed-breed dogs (63,6%), followed by Shih tzus (11,4%). In terms of age, the most common cases were dogs between 6 and 9 years old (43,2%). The primary clinical signs were pruritus and lymphadenopathy, each one representing 38,6% of cases. Neoplasms and skin tumors were the category of the most frequently diagnosed conditions (31,4%), while autoimmune dermatopathies were the least common, with only one suspected case (2,0%). Leishmaniasis was the most commonly described condition, ocorring in 19,6% of cases. This study concluded that dermatopathies have a high incidence in small animal clinical practice, providing valuable insights for improving diagnostic approaches and developing more effective clinical protocols at the CCV of IFMG – Campus Bambuí.
